Servers Sort of Up

All I can say is hang in there.

Technical problems can be fixed. A broken game cannot. We have a good game on our hands and the problems we're seeing can be fixed.

This is typical of a Japanese company to underestimate their IT capacity needs. They know how to plan for capacity in in Japan because Japan has a fixed population (generally speaking). As for the world, it's just not their slice of bread.

Thanks for the posts all, keeps me updated!

This is a bit more than an underestimation. This is a complete lack of proper planning and resource budgeting. With the bitter taste of 1.0 still in the mouths of the vast majority of the population, the very public prostrating by Square Enix executives over 1.0, 10 days worth of data from a highly populous 2.0 phase 3 beta, and 3 days of an open beta (which experienced these very same issues), SOMEONE in their IT team would have voiced their opinion that MAYBE their estimates on the population were a bit off and the datacenter could use a bit of bolstering on several OSI layers. I'd like to know whether the rumor that they refuse to invest money in the current datacenter is true or false. I can't imagine any company saying that in this sort of crisis.

Agreed. I mean, this sucks and all, but even if things aren't stable until a week past launch... I have plenty of stuff to do.

Japanese are just as bad at capacity planning as they are bad at programming. Seroulsly, very few companies here have the know how to provide a global service. The ones that do, hire foreign services to help them manages. Nobody knows what SE did or didn't do, but they can still fix the technical problems.

Some executive is probably pinching yen for the NA/EU data center, that I don't doubt.

More later, just got into the office.

Its just exceedingly frustrating that they continue to release 'more info' just stating they are placing tighter and tighter restrictions on who can login... basically saying they are TRYING to attempt to fix the problems for those people who can login, at the expense of a LOT of players who have been mashing enter for a long time. For instance, I've been trying off and on since 9am.. and its now 6pm :P

Sorry man... Then I suppose being at work this morning isn't so bad. :coffee:

I'm with everyone on this one ... i'm sticking with it.. but HOT DAMN... i've seen so many major issues\bugs this past weekend. Got most my playing in yesterday but had no luck today. Sadly I am flying to CO next weekend, was hoping to play more this weekend.

Speaking of actual game bugs....

I ran into some sort of quest bug yesterday that:

- Removed my 4th chat/text window.
- Blocked my ability to access the game menu with the escape key
- Stuck my game into a mode where I could only use the mouse to use the hotbars

All after I tried to turn in a quest in Drybone.

I used the /logout command to get out of the game only to get the 10102 errors afterwards.

I also found another bug with the Poacher quest for Archer. Either I got one shotted in the instance or my HP bar was lying! I died needless to say... Embarrassing when I dropped out dead.

Guess I'll check the bug reports today.

God. I'm reading some of the forum posts on the official SE forums and it just makes my head hurt.

Very few posts have actual merit while the rest is just whining or "I could do it better...."

Lunch hour has begun, let's try to log into the game. :)

I thought this is interesting.. we blew up the Support Center.. Or everyone ran away screaming.. So the Support Center has been out since 12:30 Am and they post the news almost 24 hours later.

The official forums are worse than the dredges of 4chan. I'll continue thinking neither exist.

So, I've been playing non-stop for the last four hours or so now... server seems busy, still crowded in areas and no glitches so far.

I'm going to ding level 25 and call it a night in about 1 hour or so.

Login was smooth, no waiting and no lag in the game for instances or other evennts.

I got Ifrit done with a pick-up group on the 1st go on Sunday night and making good progress. :D

Didn't make it 25 -- got caught up in quests that ran me all over creation, so I'm level 24.8 and I need to sleep.

Still didn't have any problems on the last 3 instances I ran through, just logged out.

Looking forward to seeing things go well today/tomorrow. :D
