NIN tanking difference???

DDSavage

Got rice??
I forsee a giant placebo effect taking place (ZOMG I can't hold hate through Dia!!) or a giant retro-effect (I <3 nin so gonna make it sound leet)

As stated in the post, I'm gonna wait a week or two so people actualyl get the 'feel' for it, not just the psychological effects.

The last time I XPed and didn't get the crap beat out of me regularly was with that crazy WAR WAR WAR party with Xer and Chaucer and that rich fellow, and even then it was close a few times. Amusingly enough I still ended up dying when I failed to notice a statue pop *right behind me* lol. Damn that was a good PT.

errr the point was uhhh

NIN didn't really hold hate before anyway. did they? (not that most PLD did any better) maybe +enmity will get a little more attention now. Put those sniper's away~ ww

PS please prove me wrong any time^^ I need a good XP PT;_;

A good NIN holds hate just as well as any good PLD. It's just that they build hate differently. NIN build it up over time, PLD can take it all at once. Can't really call me too biased either. My PLD is 56. Not as much experience on that as on NIN but, I'll explain why I like a good NIN tank.

If they're good they'll hold hate just fine, not to mention do a good deal of damage. It's a tank that rarely gets hit, less MP used, and does damage. A DD tank. It just results in faster kills. In fact, I'll post my parse results from one of my parties in my static around lv68ish. We were fighting goobbue and the occassional steelshell in boyahda tree. I think it shows what I'm talking about here.

I wasn't too far behind the WAR and MNK. And above the THF. Although his damage was sort of low that day. We were usually about even. And keep in mind this is before the more damaging katanas at 70+. I wish I saved the data I parsed a few weeks ago in Ro'Maeve. Had full attack/STR gear on and damage was around 1200-1300. Oh well, maybe I'll do it again sometime lol.

Also, about the snipers - most good nins macro in two eris' earrings and mermaid ring for voke ^^

In the case of a bad NIN though... absolute worst thing you could have.

And to any PLDs out there, dont take this as a "omg plds are teh suck," just my opinion. I just prefer NIN tanks in my exp parties on mnk and war (and nin obviously..)

As for the update, I see little difference in my hate-holding abilities. There is some, but it's very small and the damage NIN does more than makes up for it. Then again, I haven't actually exp'd yet, just what I saw on ungur and amikiri with gimp RNG DD >.> We'll see what happens when I exp with MNKs and WARs.

Does it really work that way? How do you know? I've wondered about this actually.

never ever macro'd in enmity for provoke. i see no difference in hate when using enmity gear for provoke and then taking it off.

To explain, at lv60 I had a very hard time holding hate over our static war, so I started macro'ing in this enmity and it had a tremendous influence. Coincidence? I don't think so.

I actually usually do the weapons in ro'maeve. <3 VT exp.

Personally I have a hard time believing Enmity has no effect on Provoke. That just wouldn't make sense. The whole point of provoke is to gain Enmity. I thought +Enmity and -Enmity gera affected every Enmitous action you perform in game.

If you can explain how sophiel with his -20? enmity from his whm gear could provoke a goblin in Rolandberry about 5 seconds before me with my + 12 enmity , and the gob still went for sophiel, you get a cookie.

Interesting to note that when i voked the gob 4-5 first, sophiel couldn't get it off me.

I did the same thing with ekan back then with to test out if chr had anything to do with it. Him with his 120+ char and my +0, results were exactly the same.

Only way provoke is gonna be more potent is if you ever find an armor that says "Ehances the effect of provoke".

Enmity+ = hate gained from damage and healing @.@

i actually bring in emnity for my ninjutsu, voke and ws macros as well as warcry... dunno about the rest though, may have to add more damage post 74

My suspicion has always been that the first person to claim a mob generates a certain amount of "claim" hate. Example:

In the middle of a fight, my hate is 100, and tank's hate is 200. I use Provoke and my hate goes to 150 (increased by 50).

A mob is sitting there unclaimed, I voke it and my hate goes to 80 (increased by 80).

This is the way I've always suspected things to work even before reading this thread, and this only further confirms it to me, considering that despite you two's difference in enmity, you weren't able to get it off him when he first voked, and he wasn't able to get it off you when you first voked.

A better test would be as follows.

3 person party:
Person A) - random voker, 0 +Enmity
Person B) - You, with +12 Enmity
Person C) - Him, with -20 Enmity

- Person A vokes a yellow mob.
- Person B vokes 1 second after Person A vokes.
- Person C vokes 1 second after Person B vokes.
- Wait until Person A is hit enough and loses enough enmity that the mob goes after someone else. Record who it goes after.

- Person A vokes another yellow mob.
- Person C vokes 1 second after Person A vokes.
- Person B vokes 1 second after Person C vokes.
- Wait until Person A is hit enough and loses enough enmity that the mob goes after someone else. Record who it goes after.

If it went after Person B both times, it's safe to say that the +Enmity gear played a role in that.
