Witnessed severe harassment and cross-platform witch-hunting over a Bozja Duel on Tuesday night (Culture discussion)

Hi everyone. I wanted to share an incident I witnessed in the Chinese-speaking FFXIV community on Tuesday night (September 22nd). It sadly highlights how toxic and controlling some regional "unwritten rules" can become. (All names, servers, and Discord IDs are completely censored to follow the subreddit rules). For context, this happened in Zadnor (Bozja). In this community, there is a prominent unwritten rule regarding Duels. When a Critical Engagement (CE) spawns that leads to a Duel, some players will shout in chat asking everyone else to "give up" the registration (often referred to as asking everyone to "let them have the food/buff") so they can get a guaranteed 1v1 slot. On Tuesday night, a player didn't follow this unwritten rule and registered for the Duel anyway. What followed was an immediate wave of extreme toxicity: In-game Harassment: Multiple players group-flamed the individual in Shout chat, calling them a "thief," a "freeloader," and mocking their gameplay, claiming they ruined the hard work of the team that triggered the CE. Discord Witch-hunting: The toxicity didn't stop in-game. Members of the community took screenshots, brought the drama over to a public Discord server, and directly pinged/tagged the player's real-name Discord account to publicly shame them. The targeted player actually handled it quietly, but seeing someone get severely bullied and cross-platform stalked just because they used an in-game random registration mechanic is honestly disgusting. I know unwritten rules exist everywhere, but enforcing them through toxic verbal abuse and real-name Discord pings crosses a massive line.
