With the removal of the 2 min meta, can we have DOT DPS back?

I’ve always liked the fantasy of Damage Over Time abilities (DOTS), the fantasy of whittling away your enemies health via curses and poisons is just fun for me. I mained shadow priest and affliction warlock back when I played wow, and I gravitated towards old summoner and bard in this game for the same reason.

I was disappointed with the summoner rework since not only did they change the summoners identity, but there was nothing else in its place. I got why DOTs were basically removed as a dominant playstyle, the whole playstyle was just not with the philosophy of lining up your damage in 2 minute bursts. Conceptually DOTS should be steady damage over time throughout the course of a fight. It would be a nightmare to balance it between needing it to keep in line with other jobs that can unload quick burst damage, and on how it should play with boss invulnerability phases

But with jobs turning more “selfish” and future fights working with that philosophy, will this give the design team the freedom needed to bring back DOT as a major job identity?

Im not saying that summoner should become a dot class again. Im sure plenty of people love current summoner since the fantasy of summoning ifrit garuda etc is admittedly cool.

But maybe we DOT players could be given something like green mage or saboteur in the future?
