It's by far the best game MMO I've ever played and is quickly becoming my favorite Final Fantasy game, as someone who has played every other entry including FFXI which I played in the mid-2000s up until the end of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan storyline.
I've always heard that this game was the best FF storyline, but I bounced off this game in 1.0, 2.0 back when it was first updated, and have tried to get back into it once every 2 years or so since then but it never stuck. Well for whatever reason, I forced myself to at least play all the way through to the end of ARR and I've been obsessively playing for the past 3 weeks and I haven't even experienced the best parts of the story yet.
The story in ARR was still mostly a slog to get through up until the level 40 MSQs which is over 130 quests into the damn story, which I wish they would continue to trim down for new players. Thankfully there is so much side content to keep things interesting. I've been spending a lot of time playing triple triad, I worked my way to Second Flame Lieutenant and purchased an apartment, and had fun leveling Hand/Land jobs.
I'm currently only in the MSQ for 2.4, but am already enjoying the world and story much more now. In many ways I'll always be nostalgic for Vana'diel, but I love how much more of a celebration of all things FF this game is. It's clearly designed to be the ultimate FF experience, with the best minigames from FF8 and FF7, to dungeons and characters that feature bosses and allusions to characters from every game, it's beautiful. I can't wait to make it to Dawntrail to do the Vana'diel alliance raids or at least to Stormblood for the Ivalice raids.
