FFXI: Seekers of Adoulin and FFXIV: Dawntrail have a similar premise: the player character is invited to explore the New World.
FFXI's story summary:
- long time ago, King August led an expedition to conquer the continent, making alliances with many races, including guardian beings (This is similar to Gulool Ja Ja uniting many races to build Tulliyolal)
- His team encountered an ancient ruin, from which terrifying creatures started appearing. (This can be Dawntrail's Golden City and the creatures can be Alexandrian's invasion force)
- King August and his team sacrificed themselves to seal the place, leaving only 1 survivor to send a message to his people: never explore the wilderness again. He also made a pact with the guardian beings to guard the seal. (In Dawntrail, this can replace the electors, so instead of electors, they're guardians of the Golden City seal).
- Centuries later, current chancellor Ygnas decided to open up the wilderness again because they're short of resources. (In Dawntrail, Gulool Ja Ja could invite the WoL to investigate because the he felt the seals were weakening and he's getting older or Zoraal Ja could usurp Gulool Ja Ja and wanted to find the Golden City for power).
Possible Dawntrail plot:
- Gulool Ja Ja, Ketenramm and Galuf found the Golden City. Krile's parents appeared from the portal, left Krile to them and warned them to seal the Golden City. Some Alexandrian forces made it through and fought Gulool Ja Ja with the trio barely made it out alive. They sealed the Golden City and left the keystones to each Tulliyolal tribe.
- 6.55: Wuk Lamat and Erenville arrived at Sharlayan to warn the scions that Zoraal Ja usurped Gulool Ja Ja and planned to seek the Golden City to gain power and invade the rest of the world
- Bakool Ja Ja also wants to seek the Golden City because Mamook lacks resources (Mamook faces similar problem to real Dawntrail). He's not a jerk in the storyline, just desparate. A scion could support him here, maybe Thancred
- Koana, a Sharlayan graduate, also wants to seek the Golden City to study it for possible application like inter-reflection travel. Y'sthtola would support Koana here.
- Wuk Lamat wants to find the Golden City before Zoraal Ja does to prevent its misuse of power.
- Krile still wants to find the Golden City to find out about her parents
Dawntrail's storyline that can be kept with this plot:
- Visiting the various tribes (pelu-pelu, mamook, moblins etc) to gain their trusts
- Alexandria's motivation to invade the source could stay the same: they need souls to keep Living Memory alive
- 7.1-7.5 can stay the same, leading to Evercold.
- Yok Huy's method of memorializing the dead could be kept to maintain contrast with
Alexandria
- Mamook's resource problem
Dawntrail's story that would be cut:
- Shaaloani. I don't know how this would fit in this plot
- the 30 year time gap, which is my least favorite part of Dawntrail.
