| I debated posting this because honestly this happened a couple weeks ago and people tend to be kind of... I don't know, mean? when it comes to people posting about their happiness, and I was worried about getting that sort of response here. But I decided, you know what? This IS our happiness and we worked incredibly hard to get to this point. So I want to share it. So, I posted about my WoL's anniversary last year. I won't retype the whole thing, you can read about it here. We finally got married in January of this year, after struggling with the process for so long. It was a simple thing, a courthouse wedding because of how marriage visas work (no time to plan a real wedding ceremony). But we still wanted to actually celebrate it, so we decided to get married in-game a few weeks later and stream it for a whole bunch of our friends over Discord, for folks who don't play the game but still wanted to celebrate us getting married IRL after such a year-long bureaucracy struggle to make it happen. Our very close friends who helped get us through the game paid for the premium package of our Ceremony of Eternal Bonding for us. We hosted a Discord server for the wedding and invited our friends, many of whom we've known since we were teenagers. Primal decided to lock down character creation at this time (horrible timing, thanks devs), so many who wanted to make characters just for this wedding couldn't make it, but we made it work. It was very amusing seeing people who have never touched FFXIV put up our ceremony stream on their TV to watch it live and react to how surprisingly elaborate it was. And we made actual vows, said during the ceremony itself. And it was *beautiful*. Our friend's seven year old daughter even drew fanart of the moment and let me tell you my heart MELTED into a puddle of goo. I know it's just a silly little in-game thing, but to us, it was just as meaningful as our real marriage was. A way of celebrating us finally reaching to this point and having those closest to us celebrate that moment together. (In case you were wondering, yes, our parents already celebrated with us on our actual marriage day!) I just needed to share a happy moment during these trying times. My wife and I finally started Dawntrail together about a week ago (I'd been waiting for MONTHS while stuck at post-EW, and the wait was worth it), and we'll be going to Distant Worlds later this year after missing out on the dates last year due to our processing delays. And man, I couldn't be happier. Thank you for reading! submitted by /u/MariettaRC [link] [comments] |
