UK players: whether you like it or not, Age Verification is going to have to come to the game, or SE will have to block UK players

Under the UK's under-16 Social Media ban, communication with strangers in video games is going to be restricted behind age verification. The way the announcement is worded implies you'll be able to still talk to friends, but who knows how the lawyers at SE will interpret it. It is good that FFXIV has responded to the Online "Safety" Act with self-moderation instead of locking down the chat like Minecraft has done. Regardless, they won't have a choice when this shit begins in March 2027. Maybe it would be better of them to stop operating in the country to preserve user's privacy, but it would lock out console players. It really would be best of them to only allow Age Verification with Mobile Providers, because data breaches and the untrustworthy nature of facial/ID Verification, although I understand there are reasons why certain Age Verification methods don't work for certain people. If they do decide to do ID/facial Verification, they shouldn't do it with a provider like Persona or even Yoti who has exposed as untrustworthy.

The best way we can fight this shit is by donating to the Green Party. They promised to repeal the Online Safety Act if elected, and criticised the consequences of the social media ban.
