I haven't played FFXIV since 2022. I used to live inside the game and it was all I could think about for several years. One day I just... quit, for no reason, really. I just figured I'd come back when the next update hit... but I didn't. I had the same thought when I saw the trailer for Dawntrail, but seeing mixed and lukewarm reception, I didn't return.
I still think about FFXIV almost daily and at this point I'm basically edging myself for what will be an inevitable return to Eorzea. I don't know why I've waited so long, but I do know that when I return it will be like coming home after a long journey.
I've realized after years of being away that the story, characters, world and music in this game is a part of my soul and despite being elsewhere and doing other things, there is comfort in knowing you can come home again and excitement in knowing that there will be new things to experience once you do.
That is to say, I love this game more than I ever have any other piece of media and no matter how much time we're apart, that will never change.
