| | While reconstructing the school in the Doman Enclave on my alt, I saw this calligraphy appear several times, so I did some searching and found that it came from something rather niche, but I never realized it was actually that furniture item, the Hingan Wall Scroll. Transcription: saihi akatsuki ni izureba 柴扉(さいひ)暁(あかつき)に出(い)ずれば shimo yuki no gotoshi 霜(しも)雪(ゆき)のごとし "When I go outside at dawn through the rustic gate, Frost accumulates like snow." The Kanshi original verse is: 柴扉暁出霜如雪, a line from "To Students" (示塾生, "jukusei ni shimesu") by the neo-Confucian scholar Hirose Tansō (広瀬淡窓, 1782–1856), illustrating the arduous effort required in the pursuit of knowledge. It's pretty fitting at Rissai-juku in the Doman Enclave Couldn't read the signature, however. It would be great if anyone could offer any insight! submitted by /u/Sapphire_Aizawa [link] [comments] |
