I think losing individual dyes (especially for older content) has cost us some verisimilitude.
Before, if you unlocked a beast tribe, then maybe the quirky forest-dwellers gave you some green dye, or the sea-folk start selling you blue.
Perhaps a quest to retrieve some poison gives you a suspiciously purple vial, and that leftover cactus juice miiight have just become some funky yellow paint for your armor.
Maybe an area overloaded with lightning aspected aether is your source for purple pigments, while red means running into some thematic fiery domain.
But now... it's all the same dye, with a grey-white icon no less.
It's nothing major, but it feels like a loss, even if my bags are lighter.
