 | I’ve put countless hours into Final Fantasy XIV on the Steam Deck, PS Portal, PC, ps4 (early days) and PS5, so I wanted to share my thoughts for anyone considering picking it up on the Nintendo Switch 2. Obviously, PC is still the best experience performance-wise, and the PS Portal looks amazing if you have a solid Wi-Fi connection. But I think the real comparison is Switch 2 vs. Steam Deck. The biggest surprise for me has been the battery life. Today I got about 4.5 hours of FFXIV on the Switch 2. On my Steam Deck, I usually get around 2.5 hours at best, even with my graphics turned way down and render scale lowered to squeeze out more battery. The Deck definitely performs better overall, but it also gets noticeably hotter during longer sessions. Performance on the Switch 2 has honestly impressed me. Yes, it’s a scaled-down version visually, but it’s been very stable for me. Really reminds me of playing on my ps4 in the early days before the pro. One tip: install the game directly to the Switch’s internal storage instead of the SD card. I tested both, and it ran noticeably better on the console storage. I just moved my other games to the SD card to make room. Loading times have also been surprisingly quick—honestly comparable to my PS5 in most areas. Now, I wouldn’t recommend the Switch 2 if your main focus is Savage raiding or other high-end progression content. But for daily roulettes, (casual) PvP, crafting, gathering, MSQ, leveling jobs, and casual grinding, it’s been a fantastic experience. The $40 purchase (complete edition) also includes 30 days of game time, and it was added to my existing subscription automatically as soon as I linked my Nintendo account. Overall, Square Enix did a great job bringing FFXIV to the Switch 2. Everyone’s experience will probs differ, but as someone who’s on the road for work and plays handheld most of the time, the Switch 2 has become my new favorite way to play FFXIV on the go or in the bathroom. submitted by /u/Lando_Cammando [link] [comments] |
