Switch 2 experience feedback

Since there’s no dedicated place to put switch 2 related feedback (despite it being in a testing phase? Quite bizarre) I figured I’d post my notes somewhere so it at least doesn’t stay with me and can be seen and who knows, fixed or changed.

The good:
It runs remarkable well in handheld mode! Quite happy with this.
Docked plays fairly well as well, honestly.
The game is playable, most of the time there’s little to no problems and I’ve been playing exclusively on switch for a while to really dig into things and it’s been going well.

I’ve done hunt trains, dungeons, trials, occult crescent, forked tower and well… basically everything I would normally do. It’s been going well!

Now for the things I feel could use some love..
* When there’s an Ethernet cable plugged into the dock and you either dock or undock the switch the game disconnects. Sometimes it realises that it’s been disconnected, sometimes it just keeps you in eternal limbo until you force close the game. Would be nice if it just kept me signed in, this console is supposed to be able to dock and undock after all.

* There’s no setting to automatically switch between a docked and handheld UI layout. Not a major issue, but for releasing on a console whose entire gimmick is being able to be used in both modes having the option to set up two different layouts would be great!

* Zones from Endwalker and Dawntrail feel like they suffer from micro stutters or frame pacing issues, they seemingly run at a steady framerate but they don’t FEEL steady. This problem is massively exacerbated when the area is crowded, in a hunt train I’ve had moments where the entire screen starts stuttering.

* Shadows, foliage and vertical lines shimmer and jitter across the screen. I’m not sure why you re doing this, it feels like either a poor upscaling implementation along with shoddy anti aliasing? Either way it’s very jarring to look at and headache inducing. This issue seems worse in zones past Shadowbringers and looks significantly more noticeable when docked.

* Sometimes when in combat in field operations when a boss does a raid wide or large scale attack the screen just briefly freezes. It’s less than a second, generally but it’s very jarring.

* Not every input box prompts you to use X to open the virtual keyboard. Not a huge issue since I have a wireless keyboard but I can see this being confusing for new players.

* The virtual keyboard can’t edit text that’s already available in an input field. So if you make a mistake and want to correct this you can’t open the virtual keyboard to edit your entered text. Backspace is grayed out. You’re only allowed to enter more text.
