Sprouts, do not be afraid to play dungeons with other players.

I've been playing FF14 for many years and I have played almost entirely solo through the whole game except for one part: dungeons.

The best advice I can give Sprouts is play dungeons with other players and not just NPCs. I understand playing with NPCs at first because playing with other people causes a lot of anxiety. What if I die? What if I don't heal correctly? What if I get lost as tank? What if they judge my dps, on and on it goes.

It okay to be bad. It's okay to die.

-- Firstly, people in FFXIV are incredibly nice and even moreso to Sprouts. I have hundreds and hundreds of hours and the worst thing I have ever received - EVER - is: "typical black mage" when I soaked a couple too many AOEs...

-- Secondly, people love sprouts. One of my favorite things is getting to run a dungeon with someone for the first time and get to talk with them about the music, bosses, story, etc. Even if there's minimal talking, I know they are witnessing some amazing content for the first time and I'm happy to support them. It's a joy to watch a sprout to flung off the map to a mechanic they weren't aware of. No one is mad about it, they are probably laughing thinking about how that happened to them their first time.

-- Thirdly, it's really fun! NPCs are fun in dungeons too, but playing with other people who are really pushing the limit of your skills. Wall-to-wall pulls (when the tank grabs every mob they can until they are literally stopped by a checkpoint) make you understand your character better whether that's tank, healer, or DPS. Casual content is great, but locking in with a perfect rotation and watching those damage numbers pop is a dopamine hit you don't know you're missing. (I'm a Black Mage so my entire point of existence is to cast big booms.)

-- Fourthly, some of my favorite memories are a team that really struggled. A team where it took 7+ attempts at a boss but the positivity and excitement of getting closer and closer. Watching as the players literally get better at mechanics or faster at their rotation. Seeing the chat box fill with "we almost had it!" "next time, we got this!" It's a really positive experience.

One example, a long time ago, there was one dungeon where I was new and died to some mechanics. The tank and healer quit instantly (it happens). The other DPS started talking to me and said they were asking their FC members to come join. They hopped in and chatted with me about the story up until that point and what dungeon I was enjoying so far. It was a fantastic experience.

None of this would happen if you only stick to NPCs and you'll miss out on some really fun optional content on top of it.

If you are scared to run a dungeon with other people, don't be. 99.99% of people are nice and the mean people will normally just leave to be replaced. Some of my favorite memories are playing with other people. And if you are still worried, just pop in chat "hi, first time" and that sets the pace for the whole dungeon.
