I don't usually post but I felt like most news, comments, or reviews in the world right now are so negative that great things needed to be highlighted. My girlfriend, my best friend, and I all started FFXIV about 2 weeks ago and and we have all had overwhelmingly positive experience with veteran players. I did a fair amount of research about ffxiv rules and tips on Youtube and I kept seeing "protect the sprouts" or "don't let people move on if new players are in cutscenes", and the list goes on. While that is surely a positive sentiment to be echoed on Youtube, it's a completely different thing to be put into practice in-game.
But WOW this community has been so kind and I hope even long time players are not jaded to the fact the player base is truly special. For example- I was running to turn in my Maelstrom provisions and saw two lvl99 players sitting on the bridge. On a whim, I decided to sit down beside them and say hello. They both said hello and complimented my little red panda minion that I just got from PotD. That alone would have made me extremely happy but it didn't stop there. I complimented one of their little duck minions- jokingly saying i would love to get one, and (in unison) they both typed "wait here!" in chat and SPRINTED around the corner and legit RACED to me to offer me a trade of 4 random little minions... including the little duck. I almost didn't know what to do. The craziest part is they then offered ANOTHER trade to give me a million Gil and i just sat there and stared at the screen with my jaw on the ground. I declined the trade but they stated it was for "duck supplies" and insisted. This encounter made my night, to the point where I was only thing about this during the next dungeon. On top of the gifts, they added me and tried to answer any questions I had about the game so far. The single nicest encounter with random MMO strangers I have ever had.
The craziest part is... a day later, my girlfriend had a similar experience. She was about to teleport at an Aethryte and a stranger runs up to her, doesn't say a single word, offers a trade and puts a big shark boi mount in it and then teleports away before she can even say thank you. She just sat there in disbelief and awe for a solid 5 minutes.
I apologize that this has been a wall of text but I really feel like the general good vibe of this community needs to be acknowledge and appreciated. It feels like most veteran players have this maternal nature about them that is very motivating for newer players to continue playing. I'm not saying anybody has to give anything to be kind, just that the sentiment of helpfulness is more than enough and it's thriving in ffxiv.
