[Spoiler: 7.5] The possible meaning behind the new dungeon name (No, not "The Clyteum") and what it might imply for 8.0

At the end of the Japanese version of 7.4, Halmarut speaks of a coming catastrophe she calls "the harsh winter" which will be marked by strange events that will shake the entire world.

Here's that original line along with a more accurate translation (feel free to check it yourself ofc):

Halmarut: "問もなく、すべての世界を揺るがす異変が起き始める私たち「ウインタラー」が超えるべき、厳しい冬の訪れです"

Translation: "Soon, strange events that will shake every world will begin to occur, and the harsh winter will arrive - something we 'Winterers' must overcome."

On a seemingly unrelated note, the new dungeon from 7.5 is called クルティウス魔導工廠 which in English should be "Curtius Magitek Factory". Like Halmarut's lines, this was changed in the English version - but I believe the original name has some significance to it.

Garlean names and terminology often draw from Latin, which brings us to Marcus Curtius of Roman mythology.

Per Wikipedia:

"After an earthquake in 362 BC, a huge deep pit suddenly opened in the Roman Forum, which the Romans attempted to fill, but in vain. Despairing, they consulted an augur who responded that the gods demanded the most precious possession of Rome. The Romans doubted the warning, and struggled to think of what that was. However, a young soldier named Marcus Curtius castigated them and responded that arms and the courage of Romans were the nation's most precious possessions. Astride his horse, fully and meticulously armed and decorated, Marcus rode and leapt into the chasm. Immediately, the deep pit closed over him, saving Rome."

So what's going on in the dungeon? Easy. An "earthquake" (strange events that will shake the world) opened a "deep hole" (a voidgate) in the "Roman Forum" (Garlemald).

This could explain the powerful voidsent like Enuo and that Angra Mainyu scorpion thing. But what does the "winter" have to do with voidgates? I'm glad you asked. The last thing Halmarut said in 7.4 was this:

Halmarut: "星の意志に代わる、理が。"

Translation: "The will of the star is replaced by the laws of nature".

Back in 6.4, Y'shtola speculates that the reason travel between the Source and the Void is much easier than with other worlds is because the void is flooded with darkness. She posits that the reflections all have an innate "pull" towards the Source world, and that Hydaelyn was suppressing that pull - and due to the Void's dark aspect being the opposite of hers, it's less susceptible to Hydaelyn's power to keep them separate.

If Y'shtola's theory is correct, it's possible the worlds might be slowly drifting back together in Hydaelyn's absence, and will eventually "collide" with the Source and each other. Were this to happen, the Thirteenth would logically be the first to make contact. Hence the dungeon.

This would also explain why Halmarut wants Azem's interdimensional fusion key and is concerned by the path we're on - by using the key, we might end up accelerating the the world's demise which the Winterers want to prevent.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. I could be totally wrong! But if I'm right, that's another reason why good localization is important.
