So in the cutscene in which we activate Ethos, we hear a voice talking to us. Was watching Fubuki's vod of 7.5, and it got me curious as to what is being said. Not the best translation, but here is the JP version of the Ethos speech:
其はエートス――彼方の君に贈る技—————
想念から興り 理念に導かれて終着の地は出発の地とならん
――その手が掴むべきものならば未来で必ず巡り合うだろう
進み一出会い 星を繋げ
君の歩みはいかなるものにも阻めない
That is ethos—a technique I offer to you, who are far away.
Born from thought and guided by ideals, the destination becomes the starting point.
—If it is something you are meant to grasp, you will surely encounter it again in the future.
Move forward, encounter, connect the stars
Nothing can stop your progress.

Yours is a journey without end, conceived and guided by principle.

I've seen discussions on whether Azem knew the future, knew we would need to avert the solstice and stuff.
To me, the JP version reads more like, Azem figured we might have some need for it one day. And it does confirm that it is ineeded one of Azem's technique, the spell at least. It's possible Azem could use it without the artifact.
I dunno, it sounds interesting.
