Had a shower thought earlier:
We never see any form of summoning on other shards, even with arcanima developing on said shard.
The people of Alo Alo were famed for their arts of arcanima. However when they fled to the 9th, their arts didn't develop into summoning a carbuncle as a focus (or they lost the ability to, I can't remember the timeline exactly) and we actually don't see a single carbuncle anywhere in the area Alexandria covers or Treno.
When Sphene joins the party, despite being based on Garnet, she does not summon a Carbuncle. Instead she whole relies on arcanima as a general art.
So we can maybe presume that arcanima just developed different when the alo alo people fled to the 9th. Or something prevented them from summoning familiars. No big deal right?
We also don't see arcanists on the first.
The only arcanist or anything resembling arcanima is Alphinaud, who learned all of his stuff on the source. While we do meet people who can make familiars, that seems to be a basic magic anyone can perform with the right tools.
The only summoner we see from another shard is... the spectral summoner, being used by the Warrior of Light. While he is summoning the essences of warriors of light from other shards, we can't exclude this might be someone from another time where summoning was more popular, or was performing whatever summoning we are gonna see in Occult Crescent, which may not be exactly the same as how arcanima, summoning, or fairy summoning works.
And when other book wielders are summoned, they are known as "Ink Mages", though maybe they could also have pets and couldn't summon them in that form, so I'm not sure they would count.
I could be misremembering otherwise, but summoning as we know seems to mostly be a source only ability? Maybe because of the surplus of aether available from the rejoinings? There is of course the idea of summoning in all of its forms being an invention of ancients/ascians. Or that the people on the source can just emulate something closer to creation magics.
