So I want to go back in time to a popular fighting game from my younger days, an if you caught in the title you know what it is. It was called Marvel vs Capcom 2 this 3v3 tag battle fighting game
was all the rave when it came out. People where showing up at the arcades for it and feeling so unique with all the little combos they were putting together, but there
was a dark truth hiding in the background that some people knew and others didnt. That truth was the days of playing footsies, frame trapping, and conditioning your opponent was gone.
The new day had brought 1 - hit confirm into infinite combo to character death 1, followed by the 50/50 mix up on new character coming into the stage, and if you 1-hit confirm him you
do a infinite combo to character death rinse and repeat. This play style in Marvel vs Capcom 2 you can say is "Skill Expression", and a funny fighting game term came up saying, "is it my
turn to press buttons now". In short, hit a person once then just do your training dummy combo until he is dead.
I kinda feel like this flaw is in FF14 in boss fights, There is a phrase I have heard streamers say about raiding, "red DPS, blue DPs, green DPS". I think this comes from everything
being designed around the 2-minute meta and I was glad to hear them mention that at the panel. I think you can sum up the raid experience to how hard of a keyboard combo you want to
perform while doing your Even minute and Odd minute burst windows while doing the latest video guide (hector etc.). If you can press a lot of buttons while doing mechanics you play
nin, drg, monk, etc. (the guitar aka red DPS), but cant handle that's ok there is tank (bass guitar aka blue DPS), but ok scared of that there is healer (1-button triangle DPS). The truth
is all jobs are bound by this 2 minute meta and play from greater to less difficulty while doing the 2-minute dance.
So I welcome the idea of evolution system and expect it to be horrible for content that already exist in a way, but if in new content means tanks doing traditional tank things in
boss fights (grouping adds, cc'ing a off add-in multiple adds till DPS can get there, interrupting primary skills) and
healers doing traditional healer things in boss fights (hot's, cleansing, etc.) I'm all for it.
