| Oh man, I really didn’t expect to make this into a post-fanfest sappy post, but I am so happy about meeting everyone at the event!! A few people walked up to me and told me they saw my post on my Shiva Ryne cosplay progress a few days ago on Reddit, so I promised I’ll post some photos after I am so so happy we were able to walk across the stage as a FRU group!! My wonderful Gaia is my bestie honeytoast.cos, and the Pandora is a new friend and master crafter sonozakizero! (And yes all three of us made our own costumes!) Abusing the post to write a very personal note — FanFest is probably the most important event to me among all the cons and events. I was very shy and self-conscious as a cosplayer for the longest time. I lurked on all the forums and always just enjoyed looking at other cosplayers’ work. I joined the NA FFXIV cosplayers guild discord at the invite of a friend and shared a few photos of Omega F I was working on right before last FanFest, and they all followed along my progress and cheered me on. I remember cosplayers I’ve looked up to for like a decade complimenting my cosplays and taking photos with me at FanFest, when it was my dream to just gawk at their cosplay in person someday . I later posted the Omega F photoshoot on reddit (it was my first post here!) and I was incredibly nervous since reddit does hold the reputation of… brutally honest comments let’s say , but people were nothing but supportive and told me they saw me and loved the cosplay at FanFest. It sounds stupid to say, but amount of support I got both online and at the event finally made me think “hey maybe I’m not that bad”, and gave me the initial dose of confidence to make more, post more, and embrace my love for the craft. And a short 3 years later I have now 15 FFXIV cosplays under my belt I am forever grateful to the incredibly kind and wonderful FFXIV community I hope to see you all next fanfest, and before then, please join my treasure map PFs submitted by /u/narumicos [link] [comments] |
