With another being shut down through exposure to the general public, it has become increasingly obvious that this could only be a temporary band-aid for a much larger problem plaguing the game. Inevitably, others will rise to exploit the same vulnerability, and the melodrama will once again start within the community.

Fundamentally, the issue stems from too much public information being readily available, creating countless opportunities for nefarious actors to exploit.

Currently, the commonly proposed solution is to set all privacy settings on the character profile to opt in by default. While this could significantly reduce harassment, the problem remains when a lodestone ID is displayed so blatantly in public view. Since the lodestone ID remains unchangeable regardless of any adjustments to a character's profile, it becomes a major target that malicious actors could use to harass other players.

A potential solution to curtail such attempts would be to conceal a player's ID entirely, preventing other players from gathering the relevant information. While many may see this as nothing more than a simple change, it could lead to significant improvement in players' privacy.

Ultimately, a proactive design should be prioritised over a mere reactive one, as simply moderating the game is insufficient to prevent bad actors from exploiting its existing vulnerabilities.
