I’m posting here for the first time because of Lv 1.
I was away from the game for nearly four years before coming back, and tonight something small reminded me of something big.
Lv 1 may have started as a glitch, something fragile and unintended. But in that vulnerability, people gathered. Not for rewards. Not for progress. Just to be there. To connect. To care.
Strangers stood together and shared emotes, words, quiet moments, and warmth. What happened was not planned, yet it felt familiar. It felt like the kind of magic that keeps loyal players coming back year after year, and that encourages new players to take that leap of faith (pun intended) from free trial to ownership.
This was community at its simplest and best.
A moment of kindness that existed only because people chose it.
Whatever becomes of Lv 1, this gathering will stay with me. It was a reminder that Final Fantasy XIV is not just systems and code, but people giving meaning to them. Moments like this are why MMOs matter, and why listening to the community is so important. I, along with many others around the world, sincerely hope Square Enix might find a way to preserve them in some form, as a small commemoration of what this moment meant.
As maintenance approached and we prepared to disconnect, discussions were had of how it felt important to remember them. To remember that they lived, even if only for a brief moment. And if they disappeared as we entered maintenance, many of us will like to think they did so with a smile, because a smile better suits a hero.
