In yesterday's keynote at the European Fan Fest, it was said that a system to include elements from field operation areas like Eureka was in the works for the normal leveling zones of (I assume) Evercold.
While I welcome the push for more relevant field zones, I am also worried that this would make the existence of field operations obsolete. The reason for this is that these instances are not only good due to the extra challenges and interactions they bring in an outdoor looking location with many players.
To me, what makes field operations and related content (BA, CLL, DRS, FTB, etc.) so interesting is the additional actions and powers that we can use in them. These can fundamentally change the way jobs are played compared to normal content and allow players to break and push the game to its limits. I do not know if they would truly be able to translate this particular aspect to normal outdoor zones.
Even then, I would still ask for the release of more field operations in Evercold and beyond because it would also allow the existence of more interesting self-contained content, stories and areas. The fact that the South Horn was met with mixed response should not discourage the developer team but rather encourage them to take in the feedback and try to iterate for a better result in the future, as well as innovating to bring new elements to them.
Content like field operations, Criterion dungeons or Chaotic Alliance raids should not become one-off experiments but rather consistent additions for players of all types to engage with.
