Quest that offer as reward an option between pieces of gear and gil in form of Allagan Pieces, offer an amount of gil that is just below the vendor price of the adjacent pieces of gear, otherwise, if the gil was more than the vendor price of the gear, there would be no point to the gear since you could just get the gil, buy the gear and have leftover gil as well.
That's why in the level 4 quest Fantastic Voyage, if the 3 Allagan Pieces were Allagan Tin Pieces, the reward would be 75 gil which is just below the price for the 2 pieces of gear also offered as a reward, one selling for 108 gil and the other for 94 gil, and it would be as it should be. However the Allagan Pieces are Allagan Silver Pieces instead, making the reward 1500 gil, which I am confident is a mistake for the reasons explained previously.
