This is just a vent of sorts, and I'm curious if anyone has any advice or words of encouragement. Buckle up, because I guess I had more to get off my chest than I thought.
I've really loved this game from the start. I've always loved FF's worlds and lore, and of course, chocobos lol. Back in the day, when I started ARR for the first time, I was playing with my then boyfriend and now husband. We got through a good portion and then stopped around level 30 or so. He just wasn't into all the fetch quests. He played a lot of WoW back in the day and said he found WoW to be more immersive and that the art style of FF was lackluster compared to how visually stunning and colorful WoW is, which tbh, is a fair critic imo.
And that was it for me and FF for a while, as losing my duo made me lose interest in continuing to play on my own. We tried WoW out together a few years later, and it never clicked as much as FF for me. I'm a WHM main and the healers in WoW didn't feel as good, on top of the fact that WoW is just VERY confusing for new players. If I didn't have him to guide me, I definitely wouldn't have played for as long. The WoW phase lasted through one fleeting summer of college, where we unlocked Void Elves together... And then never returned lol.
During the WoW phase, I couldn't help but think of FF. I convinced him to try it again. This time, we got to the end of ARR but then the PATCHES. This was around the time I think Shadowbringers came out, so I immediately became a Viera because FFXII is my favorite FF and I love Fran (I will not be taking criticism at this time). The patches are what got both of us to quit that time around. They felt soooo slow to get through, and the story dragged.
Now with Evercold coming out, and the fixes to the ARR story, I'm back again lol. I obviously have a pull to this damn game. And the good news is, I'm loving it! I think I'm in the "good" part of the ARR patches, as the story pace has improved immensely and it seems to be actually building towards something. I'm also taking my time to read ALL the dialogue and invest myself in the story more. But my husband, and literally all my other friends, refuse to play with me. They've all given it a shot and it's not for them. I don't blame them. But it is kind of lonely and sad lol. I don't even necessarily WANT to try and make friends, as over the years and with age, I've developed a sort of social anxiety I just didn't have in youth. But on the same coin, I think I would enjoy diving into RP or maybe finding a FC to do some of the ARR content with that no one seems to care about anymore (I want the ponies and moogle weapons), but the thought of "putting myself out there" in Party Finder, is terrifying. I also don't even know where to start with RP and feel like that would freak me out too.
I know there's not much advice for me, as it's going to be up to me to get over both my social anxiety and my anxiety about not being a very good WHM that people would want to party up with. But if any of you have stories to share about friends you've made, or how you play the game alone, I'd love to hear them!
TLDR: None of my IRL friends like this game and I'm a ball of social anxiety and I'm alone and sad lol. Not sure how to get over my mental blocks to engage with other people in the game and want stories of fellow solo players or people who found friends in the game!
