Hello, everyone!
I know this is probably the umpteenth time someone has brought up this topic, so I'll try to be as brief and concise as possible.
I want to preface this by saying I'm not into RP as much as others at the moment, I just want to create backstories and maybe eventually share them with folks
During Endwalker, I entertained the idea of creating a backstory for my WoL (back when she was a Miqo) and during that time, I was using a glam I really like that made me entertain an alternate backstory that quickly grew on me as the default one, in which she isn't the WoL at all. Now that she's a Hrothgar, I had to retcon a bunch of things to make it lore-friendly (otherwise it would bug me to no end because as much as I like making backstories and whatnot, I am equally embarassed at the possibility of sharing them and facing scrutiny for them), which has been a lot of work cross-referencing 10+ years of worldbuilding.
I know some people are more lax regarding lore-accurate character lore while some others are more strict. I know all about "don't make your character too close to big established NPCs, etc. so my question is thus:
If the lore you're trying to explore for your character sits in a very grey area as far as lore goes, would you personally favor lore-accurate/lore-friendly explanations over the original if it deviates from established lore or would you favor just having fun even if the game's lore contradicts what you're trying to make?
I welcome any and all opinions on this if you would like to share them.
Thank you for reading!
