Is it time for me to pay for the sub?

Hello, Switch 2 Sprout here. I’ve already invested around 160 hours into the free trial. Yesterday, I finally made it to Heavensward.

For a while, I wasn’t too bothered by the free trial restrictions, since they are mainly social. I’m a pretty shy and introverted person, so it didn’t seem like too much of a loss. However, I’m starting to question if I’m approaching the time to consider just subbing.

Yesterday, I had a bittersweet interaction with randoms. It was pretty late at night and I was playing handheld with my switch about to die. I was grinding some FATEs to level up my newly acquired Machinist job. As I was doing the last one for the night, I ran into a group of folks and got a party invite. This was the first time for me as a lone wolf free trial player, so I of course accepted. We quickly got through the FATE. I’m not sure if the others knew each other or were also random, but someone then inquired if we wanted to head to Coerthas to do those FATEs. Looking at my switch battery and the time, I knew I had to depart. I thanked them for inviting me and let them know I had to go to bed. Having met such kind folks out of sheer luck, I tried to send friend requests, but that function is disabled for me. I felt so defeated logging off. I rarely interact with other players, both in and out of the game, so to finally get a taste and to see what I’m missing out on really stung.

All that said, I’m still hesitant to sub, because I hope to eventually pickup other games (like the new Fire Emblem). I’m new to this MMO thing, do people who play these play other games? If so, how do you balance your time? My personal issue with subscriptions is that once I start one, I feel this stress and anxiety to get as much value as possible. I know I’ll eventually need to get a sub regardless if I want to get through all the expansions. I’m just not sure how I’ll get through my own mental roadblock…
