First of all, I actually like its premise a lot more than Heavenswards, as I have a weakness for more military-focused stories. Its especially refreshing to leave the 'comfort' of the alliances regions, which makes the world feel even bigger, but...
But as much as I like the eastern aesthetics of Doma I cant help but be confused why Im using smoke bombs to sneak around enemies in fantasy japan, when I expected to be fighting for Ala Mhigos freedom in the trenches so to speak. I dont dislike Doma, but the regions inclusion in Stormbloods story feels a little bit forced imo.
Again, I do enjoy the overall story just as much as I did after the ARR patch quests, but these settings dont match imo. Im obviously still in the first half of the expansion, but so far Domas inclusion feels pretty forced/unecessary for what could be done in Gyr Abania anyway. Hell, the first encounter with (who I assume to be) the main villain in Rhalgars Reach sold me imidiatlly.
