Context: It's been reported today that Square Enix is adding Google Gemini "AI" features to Dragon Quest X. ( https://mynintendonews.com/2026/03/2...ragon-quest-x/ )
I've been playing consistently since Stormblood was launched, I consider myself an active player and serious fan of the game. I take time off of work for new expansion releases, I have commissioned fanart, I've written fanfiction, and my wife's and my characters are Eternally Bonded. Thank you to the entire development team and staff for creating such a wonderful and vibrant world.
However, if Square Enix announces that any generative "AI" features are planned to be added, I will unsubscribe, uninstall the game, and attempt to move on with my life. I don't want to do that, but I consider it a serious ethical stance, upon which I am unwilling to compromise. Large language models and other generative technologies are based on mass scale plagiarism, and have had extremely negative repercussions for society such as promoting suicide ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_linked_to_chatbots ) and advancing the spread of misinformation, frequently political.
As a fan and player of Final Fantasy XIV, I am begging Square Enix and the FFXIV staff to avoid integrating any such features into the game.
