I’m a new player about 40 hours in, I’m not too far after beating Titan and we’re looking for the airship. But the quests are really beginning to grind on me, the “Speak to this NPC over here, then this NPC over here” style quests are rough. The combat situations are mindlessly easy, there’s no tactics or finesse required really. I originally tried not speeding through, and reading the dialogue, taking it steady.. but I’m increasingly skipping stuff.
I like the dungeon play, although I’m finding myself playing with NPCs first so I can take the dungeon at my own pace. Because with real players it’s like a sprint to the finish which is understandable if they’re just trying to smash it out as part of a daily reward.
I can envision enjoying this game when the group play with dungeons and such becomes the focus, and I have to refine my skills, strategy, team synergy and such. But from what I can tell that won’t really happen until the MSQ is finished. It just seems like I’m going though the motions at the moment, but even the story is quite weak IMO and so doesn’t even carry me through the grind.
I heard the story gets really good once the expansions start. But is the quest formula the same? Speak to this guy, and that guy, kill these easy mobs etc.. I’m not sure I can grind through another 200+ hours of that.
I understand why it’s made easy so that it’s accessible for everyone. But there’s never a feeling of risk or consequence, there’s no challenge. I think I’ll keep pushing until the expansion but IMO the game isn’t great for onboarding new players. So much MSQ which feels like mindlessly going through the motions is quite a daunting task.
