How to make Scholar work?

(Note: In this post I am not referring to Savage raids or any of the difficult end-game content. I am referring to regular old dungeons and trials at normal or hard difficulty; in terms of level / MSQ progression, I am near the end of Shadowbringers; I've leveled healing classes WHM lvl80, AST lvl70; SCH lvl60)

When I play White Mage or Astrologian, I have no problem keeping everyone alive unless people are making major repeated mistakes with the mechanics. Even if the tank is being a complete idiot, I can compensate and keep the party going.

But when I play Scholar, the roles are reversed: the tank has to do their job perfectly in order for the team to stay alive. I just can't seem to keep up with the damage otherwise. I went through and added up all the heals that White Mage has at lvl60 and compared it with Scholar at lvl60 - And it is simply true that Scholar has a LOT less ability to heal in a given length of time. This is true even if you include the shields!

Based on that, it seems like Scholar is simply worse / weaker than the other two healers I've played as. But that doesn't seem like something the devs would do? There must be some trick I'm missing, right? I've dug around online and watched some videos, but none of them address the fact that Scholar simply has fewer and less powerful heals.

The only thing I can think is that with Scholar you maybe have to memorize each boss's behavior and be more proactive in some way? But there are so many dungeons now that this seems like a tall order in roulettes. And anyway it begs the questions of why they would make one healing class that has to know boss behavior in a detailed way, and others that don't really.

TLDR: Regen healers are fun and easy, but I can't keep people alive with Scholar. What am I doing wrong?
