Hi! I'm a glamour junky and built XIV Dye Tools, a site for conceptualizing color harmonies and gradients using FFXIV's dye collection.

Hey all!

Hope you guys are enjoying the AAC Heavyweight Savage (or at least trying to beat DDoS Savage).

I want to share a project I've been working on for the past two months.

It's called the XIV Dye Tools, a web-app for exploring and deep-diving into FFXIV's Dye Collection.

You can check it out here: https://xivdyetools.projectgalatine.com

It comprises 7 tools:

  • Harmony Explorer: Select a dye and view harmonies based on Color Theory.
  • Color Matcher: Import an image, use the color picker (or extract a palette), and get results!
  • Accessibility Checker: Simulate how selected dyes look in colorblindness vision types, and view contrast ratios for WCAG compliancy.
  • Dye Comparison: Compare HSV and color distances of up to four dyes.
  • Dye Mixer: Select two dyes and view a gradient with intermediate dyes in between.
  • Preset Palettes: Create and share palettes with the community! (Must sign in with Discord or XIVAuth to use this component)
  • Budget Suggestions: Select a dye and view similar dyes within a given price limit. Useful for finding alternates to expensive Cosmic Exploration dyes.

Market Board features powered by Universalis.

FAQ

What inspired you to build something like this?

I originally wanted to build a tool to help me visualize and theorize the color harmonies of different dyes when making glamours. I know there are a lot of color-wheel generators out there, but I wanted to incorporate FFXIV's dye system into this one. This started out with just the Harmony Explorer, Color Matcher, and Mixer ... but then it grew from there.

Is this free?

Free and open-source!

Does this have a Dark Mode?

Yes! Also includes a few other themes as well.

What languages does this site support?

English, Japanese, French, German, Korean, Chinese

Note: While many of the translations are done using Google Translate (and I guess by extension, Google Gemini because Google is gonna Google), I try to make sure that in-game terminology is respected for each language. However, there might be a few oddities that may linger. If you speak other languages and notice something weird, please post the issue on my Discord server. I want to try to support all the languages supported by the game, so if FFXIV ever expands to other locales, then I'll try to support that language as well.

I have other questions.

Feel free to ask me almost anything, and I'll try to answer it within a day or two. You can also join my Discord where you can discuss about this tool (or anything FFXIV-related like glamours): https://discord.gg/5VUSKTZCe5
