Here are some FFXIV things that imply real-world locations

Just for fun, here are some various things in FFXIV that imply real-life locations. Some of them are more obvious and things you probably already knew, but some are far more subtle. You probably already knew about Sandwich and Hamburg, but how about Cyprus or Persia?

A few of these, like copper, don't carry the same stowaway meaning in the original Japanese, but most do. Probably the most funny ones are the somewhat more obscure minerals referencing a small American city and an even smaller American town.

"They're just translations from Eorzean to English." Yes of course.

I'm sure this just scratches the surface, but I always find it funny how geographical info can smuggle through language into fantasy settings. Of course there's a ton of other things that also reference real-world concepts and is an almost inescapable thing for writing fantasy unless you just write complete gobbledygook. Summons, for an example, reference all kinds of stuff such as Bahamut, who very famously is a fish as we all know.
