So for example, a character has a side quest to show you additional lore, or unlock an optional Trial or dungeon. Have any of these quest givers ever been killed off?
This comes up because I've been thinking over the years, "who could be killed?" and the one who immediately always comes to mind for this possible conundrum is Urianger. A Realm Reborn Urianger hangs out in the Waking Sands and holds optional (I think they're optional) quests to do Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan extremes.
... but what if you never do those, and in 8.0 they kill off Urianger? Sure, you could have his old model still standing there. But that would be kinda weird, right?
Has there ever been a case of an NPC tied to giving you a quest being killed? If so, how did they handle the quest? If not, I feel like we can almost assume that they can never die.
I'm not looking for assumptions on what they could do, I just want to know if it's ever been done.
