I’ll open this thread with appreciation for the work the dev team has done to open up previously locked gear to different genders. Regardless if you are CIS, Trans Fem, Trans Masc or Non-Binary, unlocking these items has permitted us all to play with more options for self-expression.
Given all the work the dev team has gone to open up those old doors for us, it has been an assumption that new gear (gear created after this change in principle design) would be Gender Unlocked.
For the most part this has been true.
Yet, I am seeing reports online that the new MGP Glamours announced in Berlin featuring Barret and Tifa are gender locked.
To be clear, only ONE of the two is Gender Locked.
(Edit: This may be inaccurate reporting from online sources, but I believe the point of this post remains)
This double standard completely vexes me. Why can a Female Presenting character dress as Barret, but a Male Presenting character can’t dress as Tifa?
I want to know why this decision was made. I want to know who made this decision. And I want this decision to be reversed. Erase this double standard and give us the freedom of expression we deserve.
This double standard harkens a quote from “The Cement Garden” by Ian McEwan:
“Girls can wear jeans, and cut their hair short. Wear shirts and boots. Because it’s okay to be a boy. But, for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading.”
Please do not let this attitude persist. Prove to us that you don’t promote this kind of a bias.
