I've been playing for a very short while (2 days of play time, playing for 9 days over all) but I've already found myself really falling for this game! And I wanted to share for anyone interested in listening.
I'm not a stranger to MMOs, but I've never stuck around for long. I've tried DDO, LOTRO, and Albion primarily. I've never found myself wanting to stick for a number of reasons: the graphics, the controls, the gameplay, and so on. Granted, I haven't retried any of them since I got my new PC, but I'm not really interested in them anymore. I've always wanted to try out XIV, but I didn't have the specs for it, and now I'm glad I do. It scratches a lot of itches that make me feel satisfied.
The biggest thing that I realized is that FFXIV also fills in dissatisfactions I had with the last live service RPG i played, which is Genshin Impact. Namely, it was the incredibly slow text speed that turned me off advancing quests, and the fact that you literally had to work so much for good gear for your characters it started feeling like a job.
Both of these are just non-existent in FFXIV. Text prints practically instantly, and I can dictate how fast I want to go. This helps when I read so fast, too lmao. As for gear, since I'm still in ARR I'm sure as I level up I'll be wanting for better gear as time goes on. But at least I can work for it and know I can get it and literally not have to gamble for it for an entire play session.
Enough about comparing XIV to games that left me wanting though. There's a lot in the game so far that I've come to love. I've been told the story is somewhat mediocre in ARR, but I do like it so far, still. I like a lot of the character the sidequests and job quests give too. The community in my DC has been nice and warm, and moreso when I joined the Novice Network and getting to meet others. I love playing as a Black Mage and making big explosions as a cute bunny girl.
That's all I have to say! I look forward to playing more of the game. I'm at the midpoint of the ARR MSQ (I think?) and I've been told it only gets better from here
