For anyone that played Phantasy Star Online 2, particularly Episode 4 (not NGS), I felt like the Alexandria storyline really had that vibe. From the sci fi environments to the characters like Sphene and Calyx, and the bosses like the Queen and Zelenia, I really have to wonder if the devs played PSO2 a long time ago and were inspired by it!
Because now that I’m thinking of it, a lot of the cutscenes in general in FFXIV play out like PSO2 story/matter board scenes. And has a lot of very anime trope type characters and plotlines.
