| I learned about the sticker trade on the week before FanFest, so I wanted to come up with something to share with people there. I recently got a 3D printer, so I figured why not challenge myself and draw up something that hasn't been made? I noticed there were models for Poetics and most other tomestones available online, but saw that there no Dawntrail ones, so I went with that. It had been almost 10 years since I played with 3D modeling software, so it took almost a full day to figure out FreeCAD enough to make the basic outline of the thing, and most of a second to freehand the details. (I'm sure there was an easier way to stencil it, but I'm a fan of the imperfect.) I originally made a "full-scale" 10cm diameter version and played around with embedding a QR code on the back, but decided to go with a half-scale version with printed QR codes. These were made into keychains and one given to a friend that was going with me. After that, I proceeded with making 14 uniquely-numbered mini tomestones to hand out for special trades and cosplays I liked, then 150 micro tomestones for general trade. Even though I missed out on Friday doing trades, I was surprised to run out on Saturday. All the stickers/cards/job stone I received are now in the book on my FFXIV shelf. I wish I had the foresight to print at least 100 more in advance (and even do some painting), but I hope they were well received by those that got them (feel free to paint them however you wish!). I will definitely be upping my game in case I get a chance to attend the next one. submitted by /u/silverist [link] [comments] |
