So according to the live letter, Blue Mage will not be getting an update in 7.x. It was advertised at the last Fanfest, so I was holding out hope that we'd at least get our token 10 levels, hand full of spells, and solo trial, but we're not even getting that. No quick runs of EW dungeons, not blue raiding, no lore blurbs, or story quests, no fate grinding tools, not for realistically a year and potentially as long as three. Sure Beast Master will fill some of those Niches, but that's not Blue Mage.
Really though it feels like for all of DT it feels like they've gone out of their way to avoid talking about the blue elephant in the room. We went to Tural, the home of blue magic, and met exactly two blue mages, both sequestered away in the fishing side story. We don't see any whalaqee in any town, none of them made it to solution 9, hell there's even an NPC who uses Siegfried's triple triad card(he was the HW blue mage bad guy), and he doesn't say anything about the Whalaqee, the Masked Carnivalle, or even Ul'Dah. DT has a group of naturalists that are in loose opposition with a ceruleum powered train industry, and it's not the Whalaqee, why would it be. There's exactly one optional dialogue for blue mage completion in the whole of DT, and it's telling the Whalaqee fisherman you "know" Martyn. Not even that you are trained in his people's arts.
I get that there is some concern with how the Whalaqee were portrayed in the first stretch of the Blue Mage quests, but that's hardly a reason to write them out of the story. For the longest time Blue Mages were all the lore we had on Tural, and now it's like they're not even there. In the expansion we visit their home we're not even getting an update on them. I know we wouldn't be getting to level 100, and going to any DT zones, but it feels wrong.
The last Blue Mage update was a disappointment, I get that, I understand. The bare minimum would taste bad, but that's no excuse to cut it. They could have gone big, done something exciting, put their whole ass into making 80-90 blue mage fun and exciting, after all DT's battle content has been on point, but they didn't. Beast master looks fun, but it's not blue mage, it is something different.
