For the past year or so I've been concerned about the increasing amount of exclusive items, unnecessary competitions in PvE content, and in general just things that add tension between players in the playerbase. From examining past threads, social media, and my own experience interacting with people in FFXIV, there seems to be a simmering sense of resentment and jealousy underneath the surface.

The community has a tendency to shut down those who say anything that could be potentially conceived as negative (regardless of intention, often called "toxic positivity"). It has likely masked a lot of this resentment between players that seems to be increasing recently, and the problem, I suspect, may be worse then you might be aware of.

With the increased competition from things like the cosmic exploration ranking, the FOMO content from screenshot contests and the like, the exclusive timed items, especially limited items only available on one character, especially when they're only giving out a limited number of them.
