Coils of Bahamut looks like it was a lot of fun, and makes me wish I had played this game back in the day.

My wife is a returning player who had a bunch of level 80 classes and equipment, and I’m a new player currently doing Heavensward. She hadn’t played since like 2019, so she started a new character to play through with me.

I wanted to try extreme trials to get a taste of fights with more mechanics, but my experience has been getting some newer players like me, and a couple of veteran players who are annoyed that some of the other people don’t know the mechanics and a couple have left after just a couple of wipes. A positive experience with this though was Ultima extreme. Two people left after a couple of wipes, including my co-tank, so it was actually pretty tough getting through it, but we were able to barely able to survive to the end. It was a ton of fun having to actually struggle. I was excited to try a raid maybe, so I watched some videos on mechanics for the first one.

That brings me to Binding Coils of Bahamut. At first I was really excited, but then I thought about having to get other people involved, and I didn’t want to get 6 other people that would just be annoyed at me for dying to tank busters I forgot were coming and having to wait for me to watch all of these cutscenes just so they can get loot that is 10+ years out of date, so I went in with my wife with her massively OP scholar, and we did everything except fight Bahamut, which we will do tonight. With all the cutscenes and quests to unlock everything, I think it took around an hour to an hour and a half. I was over here explaining that I knew what to do because I watched a video at work, only for us to completely destroy this dragon lady and bird grandpa. She was telling me how it took her weeks with her friends to do this years ago, and that sounds so damn cool. I can picture how fun this must have been struggling with a group of friends.

Does anyone still level sync for the other raids? I’d like to experience the difficulty of all these raid mechanics, but it feels like I will just have to wait until I get to the current stuff to do so without having to be a burden.
