Hey everyone, I've picked up FFXIV again after a few years and I've been running into a major roadblock: absolutely no one ever shows up on the duty finder. I've consistently waited 30 mins, 1 hour, even 2 HOURS for some queues and barely anyone shows up, if I'm lucky maybe one person only for them to quickly leave (despite the menu usually claiming "average wait time 10 mins"). I remember years ago it used to take a bit longer if you were DPS, but nothing to this extent. I eventually resigned myself and just went through the MSQ with only NPCs.
However, I've now gotten to the ARR postgame and suddenly there are 8 player duties where you cannot use NPCs and are obligatory for progression. It took me like almost two hours of waiting to miraculously get a party for Good King Mog, but now I'm at the crystal tower and somehow need to find 23 whole players?! 4 already was impossible and now I need 20 extra, not to mention countless more duties to go through like the Bahamut coils, of which I just don't have the time to bruteforce 2+ hours of waiting for each, especially when they're broken up into several subparts.
The odd thing is that I've tried everything in the book I could find online:
I feel like I'm going crazy and that I've completely missed some mechanic or another! I'm sharing this in good faith, I'm sure that the game can't be this dead (there's slight congestion when I log in) and that I must be making a mistake on my end, but I cannot find what's wrong. I don't mind waiting a bit for each duty but I don't have hours to burn just waiting.
I would really love to tap into the multiplayer aspect of this game, getting to play alongside others or making friends along the way!! So if anyone knows if there's any menu option or detail I've overlooked, please let me know! Thank you!

I am on the Free Trial, which means I cannot use the Party Finder and I cannot switch data centers. I'd rather wait until I've really committed up to Heavensward/Stormblood or so to buy the full game
I'm on Ridill (Gaia), a Japanese server, because a friend I used to play with was there. Despite currently staying in Europe, even adapting to the JP timezone, no matter morning or evening, no one seems to show up regardless of time of day. I've tried switching to the Oceania servers and had the same issue
I've enabled all languages (I can even speak Japanese for what's worth), but again, it makes no difference. I've tried going to city plazas to ask for help in either language and got no responses
I've tried running healer instead of DPS since Arcanist unlocks Scholar too, but again, odds are barely any different from what I've observed
I've tried unsyncing level, but that makes me go into the duty alone where I get one-shotted since it's not designed that way. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong
