Recently I got a few new friends into PvP, and we got a pretty decent 12-man kill in Frontline. But by the time all the effects wore off, the enemies had already respawned - so instead of being able to look at their handiwork and getting hyped, my friends were confused and apathetic.
They couldn't see the results, so they don't have a chance to fall in love with the game.
FFXIV is known for removing any points of friction, but instant respawns not only take away a point of joy, but add in some friction as well. Sure I can't enjoy wiping an enemy team, but worse is when I send damage into an enemy alliance, turn around, and see nobody there. Because the respawn timers are so quick I can't understand "Oh my team was beat. That's ok." Instead, I think they abandoned me and it makes me resent them.
Benefits of a short respawn: Control of your character back (Generally good)
Drawbacks of short respawn: Can't admire a job well done, lack of information (team died, when and where?)
