Black Mage isn't fun anymore

I know this topic seems overdone. I know. But I want to add my voice to it.

I've played black mage since I started the game during Heavensward. I don't remember exactly when in Heavensward but the first time I was caught up was in patch 3.3, so...

I liked micromanaging the timer and figuring out where to stand in order to be able to cast my long spells without interruption.

I'll admit, the Heavensward version of enochian was kind of clunky. In that if you missed even one cast of fire IV or blizzard IV you'd have to wait for the cooldown of the ability. (Since blizzard IV refreshed enochian's timer slightly less time each time.) But being able to position it just right? Having enochian refresh to say 5 seconds upon blizzard IV for enochian to be off cooldown and back up to it's full timer? That was wonderful.

Even so, I understood when SB came out and the duration got removed. Fine. Whatever. They also added polyglot. I gotta keep enochian up if I want that for foul. It's resource management. Same when enochian got turned into a trait. Fine. Whatever. You only drop enochian if you drop AF/UI. I don't like turning an active choice into an always there trait, but whatever. The only difference is that now if you drop enochian you don't gotta wait for the CD of the ability to have it up again.

When Dawntrail came out, there were a lot of changes I didn't like. Removing sharpcast. Changing thunder from spells to something you could only do with the buff. Got rid of ice paradox (even if they added that one back in). Even still, I went into these dungeons and trials and raids as black mage, having to move around. Everything is so scripted that it became a game of learning where everything was so I could preposition, rather than learning tells to be proactive.

So when I read the 7.2 patch notes and saw the reduced spell speeds, saw there were no timers for firestarter, thunderhead, astral fire or umbral ice, I do admit that I got a little overdramatic with my friends. (Looking at discord, my exact words were: Death. Death. Black Mage changes were real.) I still resolved to go in and actually try the changes out though. Maybe it'd be fine!

It wasn't fine.
