Before I start Stormblood, I want to talk about Heavensward and its ending.

So this is gonna be spoilers for ALL of Heavensward and ARR’s MSQ. if you are not that far, then beware of spoilers. If you are ahead, please don’t spoil anything else about the future expansions, I just wanna talk about what I’ve played so far :)

Okay so just WOW. If anyone remembers, I did a post like this after ARR and like I want to say, I see the hype for Heavensward and why people speak of it so highly. It really was such a massive improvement from ARR, and I understand a lot of this is because of how much was set up there, but even on its own merit… the story feels better paced and focused. Like in base ARR prior to the Waking Sands Massacre, it was very monster of the week and I had no idea what was going on in the background to actually make me care what happened to any character. Then you get to HW where after an INCREDIBLE trailer, you get a sense of how much the status quo has changed. Hell, even going as far at the title scene with its intense music and blue, you can SEE the difference in tone compared to what came before.

I was NOT expecting the Nanamo twist here. I got her death spoiled, but not her actual NOT DEATH!!’

I was shocked and angry at how outplayed we got by Lolorito, and I wish to get the better of him

I am still not sure if she’s redeemed, but I grew to appreciate the growth that Ysale had. I just wish she didn’t die :(

As a whole, I was not expecting what we got. The trailer was portraying a full dragon war, but you get to see that these dragons are sentient beings who live, it isn’t just a mindless hoard of slaughter. Seeing the dynamics of the dragons and people of Eorzea change how it did was amazingly done. The dangers of revenge, learning to move forward, sacrifice… the story was just SO FUCKING GOOD I STG FJDJJFJDJ. I had very few gaps in my time playing where I wasn’t at least doing something msq related because I wanted more. Then when we got to the Dragonsong War and had the trailer moment of walking towards the dragons while the ishgardian soldiers retreated… Dragonsong War playing… holy fuck that was so cool.

Then the ending of that where we got to see our fallen friends, those who died helping us save the one we can . Genuinely such a tearful moment

THE next arc with the warriors of darkness, I truly had no idea what Urianger’s plan was and what he actually was trying to accomplish, all I know is that I was very upset to learn of their fate, and I hope they get better. Like that arc as a whole was intense, and I really did enjoy what we got there :)

Last few thoughts, I don’t know how much space I got

  1. Papalymo my boy. I was sad and angry (in game) that Ilberd managed to get what he wanted. I wanted so bad to kick his ass after that.
  2. Lyse’s story… like holy fuck we knew Jack shit about Yda so I was really happy to see her get some development towards the very end. Poor gal has gone through so much

  3. I had tears of joy when Tataru gave our WoL those clothes the callback to the pearl in ARR, like I was wondering when she’d make our character something since she made clothes for everyone and it was so worth it ❤️ she is an amazing character and as a whole, I really enjoyed her expanded role here.

Also my headcanon is that she waited so long to make us an outfit because she only wanted to do it when she was “perfect” at making them.

I also did all the side content that yall would recommend: Warring Triad, Alexander, and Sky Pirates alliance raid. I also unlocked the firmament.

Anyways I know people have been waiting for this but yeah… I fucking cried during the Vault. I didn’t know anything about Haucherfante’s fate so when I first saw him die… it didn’t click to me what happened until we spoke to his dad in that cutscene. I then I bawled my eyes out. My friends were hyping up this dungeon and this whole time I was expecting a returning scion or something, not what we got

I really did miss him, he was such a cool character, even in ARR. he wouldn’t give us meaningless side quests and I just KNEW we could count on him during the initial Garuda arc. But just “a knight lives… to serve”

“MY SON”

I have more to say but I think I spoke too much for a reddit post. Just as a whole I fucking love this game. If yall want to hear about anything I did lemme know!!!
