Okay so I am talking about ALL of Shadowbringers including patch quests. If you’re still in the First and defeated Hades pray leave!
Anyways I did all the trials, the raid series, and the patch quests. I opted to skip Nier raids for now since the story is not connected to msq from what I read… that being said
I did not expect to sob again after Haurchefant. I thought it was a one time thing but no… howeve I’ll get to that later. For now the base expansion was very eh to me at first. I was like “okay this is awesome but I really wish I knew what was going on in the source” not to mention John Shadowbringer aka G’raha Tia was kinda on my shit list for yoinking us…. but over time as I realized his intentions were pure and just predicting he was G’raha, I began to really empathize. Also I WAS SHOOK when I saw the world change. I didn’t think an MMO could make it light in some people’s worlds and dark in others but seeing the actual change we brought? Seeing how people were happy and giving hope to us was touching. I WANTED to keep going, especially upon figuring out how fucked Vauthry was like holy hell I was so glad to beat his ass. Also fuck Ran’jit but only because having ANOTHER person be stronger than us after Zenos was just bs.
Anyways the whole plot, Emet Selch, and learning all the reveals was amazing! Like I genuinely felt as if Emet could join us, and was utterly shocked when he shot G’raha despite knowing he really didn’t say he was on our team. I was glad to learn his motivations and finally get an answer to many questions but in the same token it was bittersweet in a way to kill him. I will remember the ascians, even though they are a blight.
Then the patch quests is when the game REALLY got good holy fuck. The build up between us seeing the false Ardbert was well written, and I hated Elidibus interrupting an otherwise good moment when we cleared the names of the WoL.. which was VERY well done btw, I teared up and loved how it was our character who ended up spilling the story. But I digress.
Then 5.3 hit…. This is when I cried. I heard from friends that it was an amazing patch and I fully agree. When G’raha died, I was sobbing really hard. I know he lives on through memories but him, the person who so desperately wanted to be with us never being able to… it broke me. I was cheering high when I saw him in the ending cutscene of 5.3
he is such a shy goof omg. Like it’s amazing how well done they made his character. Also that dungeon in 5.3 when we go through ALL the zones? That was such amazing peak storytelling. I LOVED all the callbacks! Like the artist Alphinaud and his assistants have really changed the world you know? It made the bittersweet moment of leaving the first hit all the much harder 
The rest of the patch quests didn’t quite reach the high of 5.3 but I did enjoy picking up the pieces of the source like when we finally cured a tempering o was like “LETS FUCKING GO!!” Like it was such amazing payoff for a story wide thread, that and the Grand Company of Eorzea was OMG I WAS YELLING. And the levilleir twins’ dad? Fuck that guy. I know little of what Endwalker is about but the stakes are high and our rematch with Zenos… it’s building up so much.
In regard to the rest of the content I played… I am happy Ryne and Gaia are together. They are such a cute couple omg and the fact that the first is healing and isn’t gone forever… it made the bittersweet moment of leaving more sweeter
Especially the ending scene with the flowers? Like those bitches gay omfg good for them. The fights and concepts were also good and I love how organic it felt to the story. Definitely well worth playing and I am surprised it ain’t mandatory!
Now we come to the trial series… holy fuck this one broke me. Gaius and his children, while I cannot say it is my place to call them redeemed I do appreciate the actions and making amends. That being said, the reveal of Alfonse’s fate and Allie being alone was incredibly depressing. I am glad the memories played but the young folks sacrificing themselves for the greater good killed me. I am so glad that imperial got his comeuppance there because he well earned it.
Overall for the expansion I 100% see why it’s peak. I rate it far above Stormblood my second favorite. Like the peaks are peak and the story and stakes are well done. I don’t know what is going on in Endwalker per se but I am pretty blind here and I cannot WAIT to finish off this story. Just overall this expansion was fucking amazing I swear to god.
