Beastmaster is Dead On Arrival - Here's Why

In case people missed out on the Berlin announcement and in-depth Beastmaster showcase by Mr. Ozma, there's a game inside the BST job that is called the Crucible of the Unbroken. This game is similar to that of roguelike deckbuilders in the sense that gear, items, and other boosting items are capable of being obtained from the get go as you progress.

There was announced that there are three varying Degrees of difficulty, each making monster HP and damage harder with each Degree. However, there's also a major caveat that Mr. Ozma included in this: There will also be a Ranked System with Rewards tied to ranking.

And you know what we get? A Rainbow Rock Mount.

This is something I genuinely do not understand in regards to design, and I feel like they're repeating the mistakes that they made with PvP in this regard, except in a PvE space. For context, back in Stormblood there was a mount for the Top 100 that was a Chair - a mount from one of the bosses of Stormblood that was particularly popular at the time. This incentivized a surge in PvP, but the issue was that it was relegated to those Top 100, and with cheating and win trading being a problem it caused a lot of toxicity in that community.

We're looking down the barrel of the gun here with this too - while the mount may not be something to look forward to for most, if they put in a mount that's highly prized because of it fitting Beastmaster or looking great, then it will cause the same controversy yet again, except with a Limited Job.

And for those PvPers who remember those times and Savage Raiders, I'd like to say that I understand the idea that things have to be earned and you need to put in the work for it; but with this? It's baffling! Blue Mage's design not having any kind of competition whatsoever and being cooperative was what made a Limited Job good - but this just kills its longevity on arrival, let alone the concept entirely.

While I won't deny it'll be fun for a while when we get it, in the long term the job is already dead and was an absolute waste of development time that could've been put towards Blue Mage and giving it its probable final update for Dawntrail(since Tural is where the Walakee are).

The best we can do is give them the feedback about this, as it doesn't even align with a Limited Job's nature and tell them that we don't want Ranked Systems in them. Keep that towards PvP or create an entirely different system altogether!
