Am I being daft if I’m annoyed that the main characters don’t care about the adventurer’s wellbeing? [Spoiler: 2.4]

I’m new to the game and am playing through a realm reborn 2.4 currently. I’ve played plenty of brilliant single player games (dragon age origins, breath of fire IV) come to mind as well as MMOs. A main thing that adds to my experience in games is the relationship that my character builds with other in-game characters. I do understand it’s a game and one that’s designed with the adventurer being a hero that’s able to achieve tremendous tasks. That’s not the pinch point.

My issue is with the dialogue where there is consistently zero regard to the adventurer’s wellbeing and quest after quest voluntelling them what the next in-universe deathly task they should embark on. The characters don’t embark on these quests with you, even when they are in the vicinity and they could just be an npc that does very little damage on a raid or dungeon while you “call on your allies“ as suggested. They don’t stop to ask “hey adventurer, are you ok with this? We could think of other choices if needed” so that it allows you dialogue where you have some autonomy over throwing yourself in the next mission.

I’ve just done two back to back quests where this irritated me. One was the first raid for crystal tower where I’m asked to go in without the heterochromia boy, Cid, Biggs or Wedge and expected to have fought a 50ft golden statue alone, Phlegethon, and yes, alone, because the cutscene after the fight , my character is standing alone and these bunch of npcs come in to speak to her so at least in-universe the character is sent off non-chalantly to wager their life . The other one is the Shiva fight. A new character suggests a method to track the aethryte that iceheart used . Says everyone who has tried that method died but she has a piece of rock so probably it will be fine. Minifila says ah well desperate times desperate measures and they all look at my character , the scapegoat. I go in alone, come back after fighting shiva , and the new character marvels that I’m alive at all

Again, how the dialogue is built is standing out to me like a sore thumb at this point and stopping me from warming up to any of the characters, except Y'shtola maybe. It’s different than every other game I’ve played. Does anyone relate? Am I giving this too much weight?
