I wrote this awhile back in a comment and got some good feedback, figured this would be a good time to share it. By all means, let me know if I missed something or if you think I posted any inaccuracies.
Formatting may be messy for awhile because I'm posting on mobile, but I'll clean it up as soon as I'm able if needed.
Roughly in order of value over time investment:
1. MSQ (excluding patch quests, one-time only)
2. Roulettes (Daily)
3. Wondrous Tails (Weekly)
4. Challenge Logs (Weekly)
5. ShB+ Beast Tribes (Daily)
6. Dungeons (Repeatable)
7. FATEs (Repeatable)
8. Crystalline Conflict (Repeatable, PvP mode)
The above list is generalized, but there are other repeatable leveling methods available that are pretty lucrative depending on level, though in some cases grinding with these methods can be quite tedious or not very lucrative compared to the above general methods:
Lv. 1 - 50
Levequests, guildleves, and hunting logs
Lv. 51 - 60
Palace of the Dead, floors 51-60
Lv. 61 - 70
Heaven-on-High, floors 21-30
Lv. 71 - 90
Bozja
Lv. 91 - 100
Pilgrim's Traverse, floors 21-30
In addition to the above, if you want to maximize your XP gains, maintain as many passive XP buffs as you can as you level.
These include:
Icy Veins has a pretty good article explaining the above in detail here (https://www.icy-veins.com/ffxiv/guide-to-passive-experience-bonuses), though it does appear to be slightly out of date, it is still generally correct.
All that said, this is a game where you really don't need to rush to the end game. Enjoy the journey. The story is great and the game respects your time.

1. MSQ (excluding patch quests, one-time only)
2. Roulettes (Daily)
3. Wondrous Tails (Weekly)
4. Challenge Logs (Weekly)
5. ShB+ Beast Tribes (Daily)
- Only really applicable lv. 71+. Earlier beast tribe quests barely give any XP.
6. Dungeons (Repeatable)
- Run with NPCs if you're leveling a DPS job solo, use duty finder otherwise. Queue for the highest level dungeon you can that isn't level 50/60/70/80/90 (they don't give much XP comparatively)
7. FATEs (Repeatable)
8. Crystalline Conflict (Repeatable, PvP mode)
The above list is generalized, but there are other repeatable leveling methods available that are pretty lucrative depending on level, though in some cases grinding with these methods can be quite tedious or not very lucrative compared to the above general methods:
Lv. 1 - 50
Levequests, guildleves, and hunting logs
- Levequests are decent for the first 20 levels or so, but quickly end up in diminishing returns territory, at least for combat jobs. Similar situation with guildleves, but you do get first time completion bonuses, and doing 10 a week gets you a challenge log bonus. Hunting logs don't pay out a ton of XP, but it's a decent amount for the minimal effort required to complete them. Hunting logs are also one-time only per job, and are only available for the ARR classes/jobs.
Lv. 51 - 60
Palace of the Dead, floors 51-60
- This grind is pretty mind-numbing and was only really worth it with DPS jobs before NPC duty support was a thing because of queue times, these days I'd say just run dungeons. But this remains an option if you prefer it
Lv. 61 - 70
Heaven-on-High, floors 21-30
- Pretty much same situation as above
Lv. 71 - 90
Bozja
- Farming FATEs and Critical Engagements in Bozja nets very lucrative XP up until about Level 90. I also find it pretty fun, plus you can work on ShB relics at the same time. For 81 - 90, you can also run Eureka Orthos floors 21-30 if you just really like running deep dungeons, but EO tends to be more dangerous and slower than the other deep dungeons and Bozja will still give you a better ROI for this level range.
Lv. 91 - 100
Pilgrim's Traverse, floors 21-30
- Another deep dungeon.
In addition to the above, if you want to maximize your XP gains, maintain as many passive XP buffs as you can as you level.
These include:
Preferred World bonus
Rested XP bonus
Armory bonus
Gear with XP bonuses
Free Company Action buffs
Grand Company Manuals
Food buffs
New/returning player + mentor party bonus
