A few misconceptions that I had and I'm sure others do as well...
1) Infinitive combos can't be done until level 50, even though you get the notification very early. They are done by triggering an instinctual combo, which puts you in moonstalker or sunstrider stance. While you are in this stance, YOU need 250 TP (so basically a fully charged rally). This will upgrade your instinctual skills to no longer have the 4 elements. They instead now have either sunstrider or moonstalker. Fortunately the color of the skill changes completely to reflect this. You can actually see these skills at the bottom of the ability page.
2) Not all Tricks are created equal. They are not just an avenue for triggering combos. Familiars generate TP INSANELY fast. Most pets have a very generic elemental damage, but certain ones have a bonus effect. For example, the treant will put enemies in Nightmare, a powerful debuff that sleeps them and makes them take DoT. They don't seem to wake up easily either. The Wespe will poison, etc.
3) To circle back to 1... You will almost always want to start combos with your pet so that you get stacks of Mastered Instinct when you complete it. The situations where you need to restore TP to your pet are very rare, because they regenerate it VERY quickly. You will initially only complete single intentional combos until you have 3 stacks of Mastered Instinct. So as a refresher, have your pet use their trick, then you complete the combo by going one instinct clockwise. Dealing a nice chunk of damage and giving you a pip of Mastered Instinct. When done correctly this puts you in moonstalker or sunstrider stance.
Now the next step can occur once you have 3 pips of Mastered Instinct. You can actually do it on the combo that puts you at 3 pips. Immediately use Rally to consume all Mastered Instincts, putting you at 250 TP. This will visually upgrade your instinct skills on the bar. If you are in sunstrider stance, use the "dark" skills, Hawkish Talons or Calamity. If you are in the moonstalker stance, use Brutal Rage or Risen Fall, the "light" skills. This will do big damage and trigger a Universality Combo.
4) Some great EARLY pets: Wespe gets final sting for like 3k potency. Slime (copperbell boss) gets bind+, allowing you to bind enemies that doesn't break. You can abuse this with quelling wave borrowed skill for free damage. Normal crab gets a tempered release that GREATLY increases their attack speed, which generates a ton of FP. Treant trick (as mentioned above) is insane for dungeon runs. It can sleep the entire group. Ghost trick can doom in an aoe.
Anywho, not a guide or anything, just some basic primers. A freebie is that I advise you take a goobue against the first crucible. The disease effect will be very important against the final boss.
